Design starts the moment we meet our clients to discuss their project and to formulate a brief which will include not only the aims and objectives of the project in a practical sense but also encompasses our clients’ end goals and aspirations.
With these requirements in mind we are then able to develop the ideas into a coherent whole. The skill at this stage is to help our clients free their thinking process and any pre-conceptions they may have in order to allow a proper holistic analysis of the brief to take place.
As Architects our role is to advise on the issues that impact on the brief so that the client can make an informed decision where required. This may mean choosing between different paths or routes on the project and these decisions will inevitably affect the final outcome. Issues at this stage may include visual appearance, spatial quality, outlook, overlooking and statutory regulations to name just a few.
Our skill as designers is to synthesize all these: the aesthetic, the practical and statutory requirements to bring together a visually and aesthetically pleasing whole that not only works practically and functionally but complies with all the relevant building control legislation.
These elements are crucial for the creation of a successful project. However there is another aspect that is becoming increasingly more important: that of the environmental performance of a building. Not only in the energy that is required to heat the building (or cool it down in summer) but also in terms of the materials selected to construct the project in the first. It is increasingly essential to consider all these aspects from the outset as the successful incorporation of these elements inevitably shapes and forms the design.
As experienced designers we are not only well informed in current building practices and technologies but also well versed in government legislation that may be affecting the grant aiding of particular environmental features. These funds are currently available for the installation of a variety of renewable energies.
We are also skilled in leading our clients through the various stages of the design requirements whilst ensuring that we remain constant to their own vision and end goal. Once the design is agreed we are ready to translate the ideas, design and concept into drawings and schedules which will inform contractors throughout the building process, giving them the information required to lift the design off the pages and into reality.
